What is your artist name?

CIG 40

Explain what your name means?

Cig 40 came from a childhood name Cigarette, I just added the name 40 because it sounded good, especially when it’s carried on your waist.

What city and state are you representing?

Brooklyn, NY

Describe your style of singing or rapping?

A real Brooklyn sound that’s full of old principles, an updated rawness, edge and authentic feel to it. I can make music for the ladies, streets, clubs or airwaves.

Who inspired you to pursue a music career?

I’ve always been around dope rappers from my hood with ill styles, flows, rawness and just a different Brooklyn sound. But it wasn’t until my brother, an up and coming artist named pretty pistols was killed that I then wanted to carry his torch and create a legacy for our family.

What challenges did you face as a youth in pursuit of your music dream?

No challenges really because I’m just really getting started, but along the way it makes you wish you have more support along the journey when you’re struggling. People start coming after the fact when all your hard work you had to do by your self or with a certain few start to open up.

Describe your feelings when you’re recording music in the studio?

Just feels good, doing something with my life, living a dream. I feel proud from how far I came and to carry on what my brother was trying to accomplish. I get hype and feel like I have the energy of a barbarian in the booth.

What is the message behind your music?

My music is for people in the streets going through the harshniess of life and at the same time make those same time people have fun in the club by taking the problems off their minds temporarily. I can switch up, be diverse and do music that touches the heart. Actually I’m working on stuff that’s a little more personal and touchy.

What do you fear the most in this business?

Nothing! I just want people to hear and connect to what I’m trying to do. When you come from the streets, it’s nothing to really fear in the industry and I’m educated, so I got my eye’s on those bs contracts, etc.

Are you excited to be featured in RNH Magazine?

Hell Yeah. It’s a pleasure and I’m honored

#SOUNDCLOUD rising star #CARA-MEL talks injustice, worldwide unity, & music legacy with RNH Mag! #RADIOPUSHERS #IAMTV #RAIRADIO

.CaraMel

CaraMelCaraMel

What is your artist name?

Cara-Mel

Explain what your name means?

The result of creating caramel is a heated liquid that is formulated from sugar or syrup that is used for the purpose to flavor various foods. Just like the additive, my name represents the sweet versatility in my musical flow that is used to formulate/create songs with a purpose.

What city and state are you representing?

I currently reside in the Baltimore, Maryland area. But, I represent the DMV.

Describe your style of singing or rapping?

My rap style can be best described as a blend of Hip Hop, Down South, and Dance meets Trap.

Who inspired you to pursue a music career?

At an early age, I quickly fell in love with R&B and Jazz artists like Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Kenny G, and Najee. This lead to me writing R&B songs by the age of eleven and learning how to play the saxophone. I really did not get into Miami Bass, Down South and Hip Hop music until the age of fourteen; and some of my rap influences include Luke, Salt-N-Pepper, MC Lyte, and 69 Boyz.

What challenges did you face as a youth in pursuit of your music dream?

Growing up, I did not really have the support like I do now when it comes to my music. Back in the day, my family just figured it was a phase and that I would eventually grow out of it. In addition, I never had the finances and resources available in order to pursue my passion fully in my youth. However, I love this new era of independency that is arising for the indie artist. The various social media platforms that are available nowadays are definitely key components to gaining true exposure.

Describe your feelings when you’re recording music in the studio?

Music provides an outlet for my conscious. When I get into the booth, it allows me an opportunity to get some things off my chest as well as reflect about life and this world. When I write a song, I want to let the fans know they are hearing me. Rappers are getting too lazy and think it’s cool not to write their own music; which is crazy to me!

What is the message behind your music?

If anything, I want the people to take from my music the message to stay true to themselves. I believe in recording each song with a meaning and purpose. No individual should be afraid to rise to make a difference if it’s change that they seek. With this said, I am very confident in saying that I feel like when people hear my music on the radio that they will know it is a Cara-Mel track.

What do you fear the most in this business?

I love the direction my music is going right now. I just have the fear of losing my authentic style as I expand my brand within the music industry. It seems like as your popularity starts to grow, other industry representatives like to step in and encourage new artist to switch up their style. However, I feel like if the original style of the artist is what got their attention; then why change it up.

Are you excited to be featured in RNH Magazine?

Yes, I am very excited to be a feature in the RHN Magazine! I am a big fan of the grind and hustle you all represent as your organization continues to knock down these doors of opportunities for us.

How can people reach you on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook & etc?

I am always looking to network and connect with music lovers, producers, businesses, etc. I encourage individuals to support my music by going to my website http://www.iamcara-mel.com/ and joining my mailing list as well as download my mixtape “Racial Profile.” Also, please follow me on Twitter, Instagram, and SoundCloud.

Describe your style of singing or rapping?

Lifestyle rap… I spit my every day life in my rhymes — experiences, views, aspirations

Who inspired you to pursue a music career?

My man CYG (GOD bless his soul)… he truly wanted this music shit since we was young teens, I was more concerned with sports and when I got locked up as a freshman in high school he got shot and killed shortly after so in memory and keeping his spirit alive I’m pursuing this music career. He’s my inspiration and drive

What challenges did you face as a youth in pursuit of your music dream?

I think I answered that above

Describe your feelings when you’re recording music in the studio?

The content of the specific track is how I’m feeling… sometimes I may feel untouchable so I have a stuntin type record, other times I may feel unwelcomed & fed up with the system so I write and record a politically rebellious type track. My vibes are really mirrored in my music

I represent the hustlas; the knowledge seekers; and the wisdom speakers of the universe. So my message is to get money, get hip & giveback by teaching the youth

What do you fear the most in this business?

What I fear most is not knowing because what you don’t know can harm/kill you so my aim is to seek knowledge in as many aspects as possible within this industry just like any other field in life
