Q: ARTIST NAME?
A: (Old Skool) QueenE
Q: Describe your style of Music?
A: I am a Songwriter that write a mix Genre of songs with emotions. I am a Poet first that writes about and writes to address an issue that grabs my attention in some way.
Q: Explain what your name means?
A: I am Old School from the days of ma Bell telephones, where there were no voicemail, not text messaging and we had to interact with each other one on one in-person. I old school that remembers what it is like to have a man express himself to you with love phrases not curse your being and damn your status for being a female. I’m old school that likes to dance with a man touching me not a man standing back looking at me dance. I’m old school that believes in brother and sister love and respect of each other.
Q: What city and state are you representing?
A: Washington, D.C.
Q: Describe your style of singing or rapping?
A: Well some may want to compare me to Lauryn Hill or Erricka Baddu that is a nice complement but I have my own sound. I just prefer to be just know as me, QueenE, name Esther after my mother and Aunt Esther.
Q: Who inspired you to pursue a music career?
A: I was inspired at an early age of three years old by my cousin, Gloriajean who took me to the Radio Station named Wook in Washington, D.C. to dance to win Records, 45rpm. Back then I heard a lot of Motown Artist and Atlantic Records Artist put it down. And in High School when Marvin Gaye and Stacy Lattisaw became Nationally known from our neighborhood in N.W. D.C., man it was on from there.
Q: What challenges did you face as a youth in pursuit of your music?
A: I am older now and I am a survivor of the Jim Crow era of the 1960s-70s. We black kids back then experience racism at every turn and at every type of industry and Art form. I remember trying to enter the Modeling World to learn that I was too black for that. The Record Label industry were out of reach for me. You had to travel to New York and I learned that I was too poor for that
Q: Describe your feelings when you’re recording music in the studio?
A: too but I still dreamed but was too poor to afford a train or bus ticket to New York.
Q: What is the message behind your music?
A: This song is about Censorship. Today we all are sensitive and get emotional over words. Back in my old school day, if you said a curse word to some one that meant its a fight about to happen. If you called someone a dirty name, its getting ready to be a fight. I am a writer who can write about any subject. An issue in the news or something that spring up in my surroundings with family or friends my inspire me to write about it.
Q: What do you fear the most in this business?
A: I fear that the music world is giving too much attention to the Rappers with negative content. They promote violence to make money and I wrote about it in my Rap song called “It’s All About Money”. Promote clean Rap songs like Chance The Rappers and others. I’m not trying to be a Rapper but I do add Rap in some of my music.
Q: Are you excited to be featured in RNH Magazine?
A: I am very excited and Honored to get some attention for my Music because I believe it to be a complement a recognition by the real big names in music to even look my way.
Q: How can people reach you on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook & etc?
