Social media breakout star ROMELA talks hustling, music, & more with RNH Magazine! #MAJORKEY

.ROME_LA

What is your artist name?

ROME LA

Explain what your name means?

Growing up my father and I had the same name so to cut the confusion, I got the nickname Rome. The LA part is represent my city, Los Angeles.

What city and state are you representing?

Inglewood

Describe your style of singing or rapping?

Wavy.

Who inspired you to pursue a music career?

My earliest inspirations would have to come from Lil Wayne. The work ethic and charisma in how he had his career definitely influenced me. I listen to all type of hip hop growing up but Lil Wayne had most of my iTunes memory. My older brother Felton used to play all his shit in the house, I remember one day I was using his iPod and I was playing the Xbox360… The carter II came on and the rest is history,

What challenges did you face as a youth in pursuit of your music dream?

When everyone thinks LA they think million dollar homes, exotic cars and the beaches. Coming from my area Mid-City/South Central we didn’t have those luxuries. My mother worked to put food on the table, some nights we didn’t eat but she did everything to make sure if we did get something it was something we liked. I admired her hustle so when the age came where I could use my mind and skills in the streets, I did so.

Describe your feelings when you’re recording music in the studio?

It’s a relief when I get in the studio, I get to paint the pictures going on in my head.

What is the message behind your music?

My message is anyone can do anything they put their mind to, I was born in a apt. with 4 other siblings, one mom, and a father that was in & out of jail for selling drugs. If I came this far so can you.

What do you fear the most in this business?

I only fear not being able to do this the rest of my life.

Are you excited to be featured in RNH Magazine?

It’s an honor to business with RNH.

WHICH STATE DO YOU REPRESENT

CA

WHAT IS YOUR GENRE OF MUSIC (CREATE A DROPDOWN BOX AND PUT THESE OPTIONS, HIP HOP, EDM, POP, COUNTRY, ROCK, R&B, CHRISTIAN RAP, GOSPEL, OR ALTERNATIVE)?

R&B/Pop

DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND?

Easy-going west coast vibe, mix of modern day pop elements with R&B/Soul feel in the voice and subject matter

DESCRIBE YOUR PASSION FOR MUSIC?

I’ve been writing and singing since I was 12 or 13 and it’s the best form of therapy I’ve ever tried. I listen to music to feel better, create it to feel better, and perform it to feel better. I love it with everything I have and it’s all I want to do or the rest of my life.

ARE YOU MAKING MUSIC FOR FUN OR ARE YOU TRYING TO BECOME A LEGEND?

I’m pursuing it professionally. I have the drive to really make something of myself and be big someday but I’m also a very practical person and I’m very aware that it’s a one in a million chance of making it so I’m going to college, NYU, to study all aspects of the music industry so I can at least be involved in it in some way.

WHO DOES YOUR MUSIC RELATE TO?

Teens, adults, anyone’s who has ever been in love or likes to listen to music about life not always working out, I know I do.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IN MOST IN LIFE?

I’m not a religious person, so I believe in the power of hard work and passion and treating people with respect. I think it’s absolutely vital to stay humble and focused, especially with a career in the music industry.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO IMPROVE REGRDING YOUR MUSIC? (EXAMPLE, BETTER PRODUCTION, STAGE PERFORMANCE, AND ETC)

I have massive stage fright still, that’s probably the biggest thing I’m working on. I’m always trying to strengthen my voice and its capabilities, that’s something I know I’ll be working at my whole life because I’ll never be a perfect singer, guitar player, or piano player. There’s no end to what I can learn!

WHY DO YOU EVEN DO MUSIC?

Honestly, it’s the best thing I do. I just graduated high school and wasn’t necessarily a bad student, but if you compare my grades to the music I was making, the trips I was taking to Nashville for writing sessions, recording afterschool and on the weekends, I think it was worth every second. I know it’ll be a lifelong obsession and interest and I really just want to make people happy and give them music to sing along in the car to or cry on the floor to. Cheesy I know.
