What is your artist name? Khaneal

Explain what your name means?

It’s my first name. My parents found it in baby book and then changed the spelling to honor my grandfather on my dad’s side whose name was Neal. According to my parents it means “sturdy stock” in some African language. I chose it as my artist name because it’s unique and it’s a dope name.

What city and state are you representing?

I represent Fresno, California! Shout out to the 559!

Describe your style of singing or rapping?

My style is based on versatility. I sing and rap fairly equally and have released songs with all kinds of different genres influences including conscious rap, R&B, trap, reggae, lyrical hip hop, ratchet bangers, and RnBass. As I’m growing as an artist my style is constantly expanding and changing. I think that’s a good thing.

Who inspired you to pursue a music career?

My parents alwasys wanted me to take voice lessons growing up becaue they saw potential in my voice but I never took them because I was focused on basketball. When I got to college I sang at a karaoke event during freshman orientation.Provo saw me sing and asked me if I wanted to do a song with him. As soon as I recorded for the first time I was hooked. When Tone asked me to a part of the Quad that’s when I began to see music as a potential career option

What challenges did you face as a youth in pursuit of your music dream?

Honestly, I didn’t face many. All of my friends knew I could sing pretty well but school and basketball were my main priorities. Once I did start making music the main challenge was convincing people that I was taking music seriously and it was more than just a hobby. Recently that has gotten a bit easier though.

Describe your feelings when you’re recording music in the studio?

It’s nirvana. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being in the zone while recording a verse…It’s like flying. Sometimes it’s difficult and takes a lot of time but when it’s finally perfect…there’s nothing like it.

What is the message behind your music?

Enjoy Life. Have Fun. Party Hard. Love Harder. Keep it TiL.

What do you fear the most in this business?

Losing myself in the temptations that come with the business. Jon Bellion has a line where he says he’s “Dropped off in the land where the artists lay, Where God’s way is the hardest way” When you get everything you ever wanted it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important. I dont want to do that

Are you excited to be featured in RNH Magazine?

Extremely excited! This is my first magazine feature and I feel like it’s a big step in the right direction. I’m honored to be featured
