Quavo shuns Hennessy, claiming brand doesn’t support Black people

Quavo is asking his Black followers to boycott the Hennessy brand and is pushing both his fans and fellow rappers to refrain from supporting the cognac brand as they are not demonstrating support for the Black community. “My Folks Need To Stop Drinkin Hennessy. They Don’t Fuck Wit Us!” Quavo tweeted. “No mo Rapping about Henny.”

The announcement also revealed that the rapper will stick to cognac, although he will now turn to the Martell brand. “Martell Way Is How I’m Coming and They Appreciate It Better! Martell Blue Swift!” he wrote.

This is not the first time that a brand is being boycotted for making money off of the Black community. Last year, T.I. pushed his followers to boycott Gucci after it advertised a sweater that resembled Blackface.

“APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!!!! We ain’t going for this ‘oops my bad I didn’t mean to be racist and disrespectful towards your people,’” he wrote after the company issued an apology.

“If we stop buying ANYTHING they MUST correct any and ALL of our concerns,” he said. “That’s THE ONLY WAY we can get some RESPECT PUT ON OUR NAME!!!!”

Recently, after the shooting of George Floyd, several brands have been shunned for their racially insensitive logos and policies. When people criticized Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben’s, they stated that they will alter aspects about their brand. However, Master P asked his followers to lend their support to his Black-owned alternative and to Black businesses in general.

“When you look at Aunt Jemima, and you look at Uncle Ben, we don’t own those products, we never did,” he said. “We need to understand that we’re not going to be able to put money back in our [Black] community because we don’t own those brands. Our grandparents [have] been having us buy those products because they think it’s people that look like us.”

“What we fighting for right now, we got to do it on a financial level and start fighting for those rights on the financial side and start showing people that we have people that are thinking outside the box, coming up with great ideas,” he continued.

The chairman of REVOLT Media & TV, Sean “Diddy” Combs announced his plans to open up a new college prep school in The Bronx.

The plan is to open Capital Prep Bronx on Sep. 8, and for now, the method of teaching will be limited to remote tools, due to Coronavirus. During the first year of the school, almost 200 underserved sixth and seventh grade students will attend the lectures. In the next few years, the school is optimistic of teaching 650 students, from grades six through eleven.

“My dream has always been to provide children, in communities like the Bronx, the high quality education they deserve,” said Diddy in a statement. “We’re not just teaching reading, math and coding. We are grooming future leaders that will change their communities and the world.”

Previously, two other prep schools were opened by Diddy and Dr. Steve Perry; which are located in Harlem, New York and Bridgeport, Connecticut.

“We couldn’t be more excited to open our next school together in Co-Op City, a community rooted in social justice and diversity.” Dr. Perry said in a statement. “While opening up remote at first is bittersweet, we have developed a best in class approach to online learning we are excited to implement with our new families. The Capital Prep college prep model is perfectly poised to transition into the digital space and we are excited to deliver a rigorous education to this inaugural class of scholars.”

Two years ago, Diddy- a longtime education advocate- pledged to donate $1 million towards the Bronx location. Stating that he knows the environment in which the kids lived, he expressed that he wanted to offer them a quality education.

“I understand the importance of access to a great education, and the critical role it plays in a child’s future,” he previously said. “Our school provides historically disadvantaged students with the college and career skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.”

Regina King becomes first Black woman director at Venice Film Festival

Regina King becomes first Black woman director at Venice Film Festival

This year, Regina King made history at Venice International Film Festival, as she became the first-ever Black female director whose film was screened in the annual event. Her directorial debut One Night in Miami was showcased earlier this week.

King stated that the reception of her film by the critics will either “open doors or close doors for more Black female directors.”

“Unfortunately, across the world, that’s how things seem to work,” she told the outlet. “One woman gets a shot and if she does not succeed, it shuts thing down for years until someone else gets a shot.”

“I am so grateful for our film to be a part of the festival but I really, really want it to perform well,” she added. “There’s so much talent out there — so many talented directors — so if One Night in Miami gets it done here, you’ll get to see a lot more of us.”

The film revolves around Kemp Powers’ fictional account of an actual meeting that occurred between Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, Jim Brown and Cassius Clay in 1964 — before he changed his named to Muhammad Ali. Amazon purchased the rights for One Night in Miami in late July and due to the pandemic, the released was delayed. But, because of the death of George Floyd, King chose to release her debut.

“We thought we’d push it back because we didn’t know what the climate of going to theaters would be like, and then a couple of months after the pandemic hit, [George Floyd was killed],” she said. “For all the producers and everyone involved, we were like, ‘This needs to come out now.’”

“I feel like fate always had it planned out this way, but maybe we’re lucky and we’re going to have the opportunity to be a piece of art out there that moves the needle in a conversation about transformative change,” she added.

Big Sean says Kendrick Lamar reached out to him after hearing “Deep Reverence”

Big Sean says Kendrick Lamar reached out to him after hearing “Deep Reverence”

After the release of Big Sean’s highly anticipated fifth studio album Detroit 2, it is estimated that it will become the No. 1 project in the country. Sean had recently stated in the “Sway In The Morning” interview that he and Kendrick Lamar are not dealing with any actual issues between each other and revealed that the DAMN. rapper got in touch with him following the release of his Nipple Hussle-assisted single, “Deep Reverence.”

Sean also recalled that TDE’s Punch once asked him to reach out to Lamar. He claimed that he tried to text Lamar but he was in possession of a wrong number.

“I never went any further than that,” he said. “I just left it there. So, I had been wanting to do that. When I reached out to him, the mutual respect me and him have for each other is that of like kings and brothers. We respect each other to the fullest.”

Sean stated that their tiff was a result of listening to what people around them were telling them. “The situation was, he thought that people around him were telling him something, people around me were telling me something, and it just really wasn’t the case,” he continued. “So, when we were able to talk, it was a good reconciliation and it was a good mutual respect. Even when he heard ‘Deep Reverence,’ he hit me and was like, ‘Yo, I appreciate you showing that love. I appreciate that love in the verse. You and Nip went crazy. Y’all gassed on it.’”

Moreover, he added that the only reason the song included lines about his relationship with others was to help others learn from his mistakes.

“It was good to get that response from your brother,” he added. “Because, on that record, I just was keeping it open and honest and real. I wasn’t trying to hold back. It was not out of disrespect, either. It was out of respect for myself and the things I’ve learned along the way.”

Black Twitter flips out over Will Smith and Janet Hubert reunion

Black Twitter flips out over Will Smith and Janet Hubert reunion

On September 10, Will Smith surprised fans with the announcement regarding a reunion special of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.

“We’re doin’ something for y’all… a for real Banks Family Reunion is comin’ soon…” Smith captioned an Instagram post which featured photos of him and cast members Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid and DJ Jazzy Jeff and honored the late James Avery.

However, the most surprising aspect was that the original Aunt Viv, Janet Hubert, will also appear on the special, although there was tension persistent between her and Smith for many years.

Needless to say, Black Twitter blew up with an array of reactions, most of them echoing the idea that 2020 is unpredictable!

“Janet Hubert and Will Smith are sitting across from each other and smiling. Chile…2020’s waters have been troubled,” one tweet read. “Ask for rain in the time of rain. Ask for favor while favor is falling.”

Another user tweeted, “Will Smith and Janet Hubert in the same room…and she’s not slapping the taste out of his mouth. 2020 has truly been a year of shit I would’ve never seen coming.”

Funnily, it was also questioned if the reunion between both the actors was in the Bible.

“I’m pretty sure Will Smith and Janet Hubert making up was one of the signs in the book of Revelations,” she penned in her tweet.

The reunion was compared to the meetup of Brandy and Monica Verzuz, which also seemed incredulous.

“First we get Brandy verzuz Monica and now Will Smith sitting down with the original Aunt Viv from the Fresh Prince, Janet Hubert??” she wrote. “I never thought I’d see the day cuz Janet talked mad shit for years about the Smiths chile…that’s growth.”

Lil Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant alludes potential tour with Drake

Lil Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant alludes potential tour with Drake

If you are unhappy about missing the Drake vs. Lil Wayne mega-tour of 2014, it’s finally time to make up for it. Former manager of Drake, who is also the current manager of Weezy – Cortez “Tez” Bryant — alluded earlier this week that it is likely that the rappers may set forth on another joint tour.

“My favorite tour of them all was this Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour,” Bryant said during a recent episode of Brian “B.Dot” Miller’s “Art of Facts” series. “It was at a time when Drake had arrived as an artist. Seeing him from the inception and as a superstar himself and mentor and mentee going on stage.”

Bryant stated that upon Miller’s suggestion of both the starts cho-headlining another tour, Drake and Wayne discussed the possibility.

“And they talked about it,” he revealed. “I do think we need to do it again.”

Since 2018, discourse regarding another joint Drake and Wayne tour was rampant. The same year, Weezy congratulated Drake for the success of his Aubrey vs. The Migos Tour, which he co-headlined with Migos.

“I can’t wait to get back on that stage and we do our own tour again. ‘Drake vs. Tune, Wayne’…whatever you wanna call it,” Wayne had said at the time. “You will never win, you never do. Congratulations.”

This news comes after the duo teased their fans with the idea of a potential collaboration during one of Wayne’s Young Money Radio segments.

“Now, something about me and Drizzy’s songs that we do together, we are both perfectionists,” Wayne said on-air. “So, it’s not like you send me a joint, I’m going to throw a verse on there. We got a standard we got to live up to, we got a track record and a legacy we gotta always protect. And then on top of that, it’s like we have this thing where it’s like, well, if I’ma send you a joint and I’m going to go first, first of all – I already know, it’s like, all right, I know this man’s about to go crazy on me.”

Drizzy agreed, adding, “Well look, on that note, you have my word as a man and Mack [Maine], you can hold me to this when we get off the phone, I’m going to be in the studio.”

Furthermore, Drake also revealed that he’d “be in the studio all weekend” and promised that he would send Wayne a song the next week. Previously, the duo collaborated on many super hits such as “Miss Me,” “Forever,” “Money to Blow” and many more.

Court denies R. Kelly’s latest appeal for release from prison

Court denies R. Kelly’s latest appeal for release from prison

Court denies R. Kelly’s latest appeal for release from prison

On Tuesday, the latest bid by R. Kelly to be released from a prison in Illinois was rejected by an appeals court.

It is reported that the prosecutors provided “clear and convincing evidence” to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals to demonstrate that the singer of “Step In The Name of Love” is a flight risk and may pose problems to the community.

It was on Friday morning that lawyers of Kelly asked for the release of their client from federal custody, claiming that in the preceding six months, he could not prepare for his trial. Since the onset of the pandemic in March, he could not meet his attorneys.

According to his legal team, Kelly cannot read, write or review the legal documents currently and neither can he engage in meaningful interactions with them. “He has essentially been cut out of the discovery and preparation process,” attorney Tom Farinella wrote in a court filing.

According to reports, this was the sixth time that his team appealed for his release, out of which four were during the pandemic. His legal team also argued that Kelly was high risk for demonstrating extreme complications if he catches the virus.

On Tuesday, Farinella said that they “will continue to vigorously fight for Mr. Kelly’s vindication.”

Previously, it was reported that a fellow inmate attacked Kelly in the prison. Allegedly, Jeremiah Shane Farmer brutally hit the singer several times on his head, as he wanted attention directed towards his own case.

Farmer is serving a life sentence for being involved in two murders. He had written a letter about the pandemic restricting his access to computers, without which, he is unable to work on his case.

He also added that he could not turn to anyone for help and “was forced to assault hip hop R&B singer Robert Kelly… in hopes of getting spotlight attention” on the corrupted government.
