Fans of Mariah Carey are being reminded to continue fighting against racial injustice and police brutality and she is leveraging her platform in order to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old Black EMT who was fatally shot by Louisville police officers in March.

The singer shared a picture of herself of Instagram, donning a black t-shirt that says “ARREST THE COPS WHO KILLED BREONNA TAYLOR” on the front and on the back, is printed “SAY HER NAME” written above Taylor’s photo.

“It’s been six months since #BreonnaTaylor, a frontline medical worker was killed by police in a ‘no-knock’ raid targeting the WRONG apartment,” she captioned the post.

She continued, “Medical workers like her save lives every day — but police violence claims Black lives at nearly the same pace. Her killing hurts especially bad right now. Now, more than ever we have to stay connected and vigilant. Follow @wearepushblack to read more about her story and for daily doses of inspiring, #BlackHistory stories to keep us going.”

The “We Belong Together” singer has spoken up about social justice issues related to the Black community several times in the past. Three months ago, she made the decision to push the celebration of her debut album’s 30th anniversary in order shift the focus towards the Black Lives Matter movement, which was sparked across the country after the Memorial Day killing of George Floyd.

“Thank you lambily, for all the celebratory messages for today’s #MC30 anniversary!” she wrote over the image of her album’s cover art. “I had planned to share some surprises and rarities with you, but prefer to postpone them to a later date.

“As we continue to fight for equality and justice within our broken systems, I thank you for using your platforms to educate, inform and invoke change. Together let’s bring on a change. Love, Mariah,” she concluded.

Moreover, she also retweeted Taylor’s family’s official GoFundMe and asked her fans to drop a text reading “FLOYD” to 55156 in order to see justice after he was killed in custody.

Georgia cop beats Black Lyft passenger unconscious in Video Clip

After a video surfaced of an officer smothering a Black Lyft passenger until he became unconscious in Atlanta surfaced online, a Clayton County Deputy was put on administrative leave.

According to reports, the incident took place outside the Georgia Department of Public Health vital records office, close to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and an investigation is underway.

The victim and his girlfriend were availing of Lyft’s ride-hailing car service and the driver was asked to pull over midway as his tail light was allegedly not working. It was revealed that the driver did not have his driver’s license with him and the passengers were asked to display their IDs. However, the passengers questioned as to why their IDs were being sought when they did not do anything wrong.

The man was asked to step out of the car and eventually, things got pretty serious and one of the officers held the man down, while the other had him in a chokehold with his young child looking. The incident, when captured in another angle, shows the cops punching the individual in his stomach.

At one point, the man can be heard saying, “I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die. I can’t breathe,” but the officer continued to strike him a few more times, until he was unconscious. In the video, it can also be seen that three officers attempted to handcuff him as blood streamed down his face.

It is still unclear as to what led to the incident or what happened to the passengers. Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill said in a press release that he “ordered his entire Internal Affairs Unit to come in and begin an investigation that has been on going since 8pm.”

Colin Kaepernick criticizes the NFL for blackballing Eric Reid

The police shooting of Jacob Blake has led to the NFL taking several steps to address the issues with the current system and seeking social justice reforms across the NFL. However, Colin Kaepernick is unsure about the efforts being genuine.

He claimed that the initiatives undertaken by the football league are propaganda and the former San Francisco 49er criticized them for expelling Eric Reid for his attempts to battle against systemic racism.

“While the NFL runs propaganda about how they care about Black Life, they are still actively blackballing Eric Reid (@E_Reid35) for fighting for the Black community,” Kaepernick tweeted. “Eric set 2 franchise records last year, and is one of the best defensive players in the league.”

It was Reid who was the first 49er to follow Kaepernick and kneel during the National Anthem as a way to protest police brutality. Even during Kaepernick’s absence, he continued to kneel and was unexpectedly released from the Carolina Panthers in March although he had a great record. Later, ESPN ranked Reid as the No. 7 free agent. Although every player ranked above him has been recruited, he still hasn’t found a new NFL team ready to play him.

After the shooting of George Floyd, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL apologized for refusing to listen to the concerns related to racial injustice. However, it was Blake’s shooting that led to actual action.

Prior to the NFL season, it was revealed that messages related to social justice will be sprawled across the end zones. Moreover, other initiatives have also been announced, such as enhancing relations between law enforcement and the community, and to close all their facilities on Election Day to ensure that their employees can vote.

Moreover, each of the teams have also revealed their plans for social justice and chose to stay in their locker rooms during national anthems.

While Kaepernick is still unsure about the NFL’s efforts, he appreciated LeBron James who played a pivotal role in the boycotts staged by the NBA.

“Four years ago on August 14, 2016, I began protesting against systemic racism and social injustice,” Kaepernick penned to James. “Truth is what I sought. Solidarity is what you showed me. Love is what moves us forward. Thank you for staying true.”

Look below for Kaepernick’s post about the NFL blackballing Reid.

Black family claims that in a racist attack, windows were smashed

In Detroit, a Black family was subjected to an attack that is now considered to be racially motivated.

It was on September 9, that Eddie and Candace Hall, along with their 18-year-old son heard a hissing noise and went to check on it. They noticed that there was an individual standing behind a car present outside their home. When Eddie was going to bring his gun out, he heard his windows break. It was later seen that a huge rack broke the glass and ended up on their couch and a man wearing a ski mask and a hoodie was seen running away from their house.

“As I was walking through the room, all I hear is a crash,” Candace told the Detroit News. “Glass was flying. I dropped to the floor and started crawling. I was scared.”

The cops who reached the scene saw that a swastika was drawn on Halls’ car along with phrases such as “terrorist Black lives matter,” “get the f-ck out” and “not welcome” on the Halls’ car.

According to Candace, it was a racist attack that was motivated by the Black Lives Matter sign hanging up in their window.

“There is tension because of Black Lives Matter and white supremacists,” Candace explained in a Facebook video detailing the tragic occurrence.

“We are shook up from this. We are not running. I am not going to take my sign down. We are not leaving. We are standing our ground,” she said.

Mayor James Fouts took to Facebook in order to state that they are pursuing the matter at hand.

“Our city is a true melting pot of many different races and religions. All help to make Warren a good community,” he wrote. “They are all welcome but those who would peddle hate and cause destruction are NOT welcome in Warren and should be aware that our city leadership and myself in particular will never stop in pursuit of justice.”

As the video footage is being reviewed, the police department is offering a reward to any person who has information regarding the case.

Dave East kicked off of Delta flight, rapper claims racism

Delta Airlines kicked out Dave East off on one of their flights on September 11. In response, he claimed that it was a racist move.

The emcee of the Paranoia: A True Story took to Instagram to post a video of the incident. “RACISM,” he captioned the post. “Fucc Delta! Racist Ain’t Even The Word! This Jamaican Man Defending me and He don’t even know me!!!! He watched the racist harassment!!!! Delta Airlines Y’all Need To Stop Hiring these racist, stupid, ignorant TRUMP supporters that get nervous when they see a PERSON OF COLOR in first class!!! Bitch just ask me what I want to drink and keep it pushing!!!! Shit got me Hot.”

The video was three minutes long and it featured the individual who was alluded to in the caption. The man was speaking to one of the flight attendants. The rapper stated that he was kicked off the flight only because a few people were nervous about seeing a Black man in first class.

While he was leaving the plane, over six police officers could be seen waiting for him.

“Racism is crazy,” he said in the video. “With all this shit going on in the news — Black people getting shot every fucking day — y’all do this on an airplane?”

Then, he also captured the badge numbers and names of the Port Authority officers on camera. Upon reaching the Black officer, he says, “You the brotha. You just doing yo job though.”

Then, East went on to ask the location of the woman who led to his ouster from the flight. He asked, “Y’all gon let her fly? And we gotta get off the plane?” However, the woman did not feature in the video. A man from the team of East approached the man defending East to express his gratitude.

The rapper was supposed to visit Shark Bakery’s Pop Up in Atlanta on Friday night. However, there was no news regarding whether he managed to catch another flight.

George Floyd’s family to be honored during Minnesota Vikings game

The family of George Floyd- the Black man who was killed by Minneapolis police officers on Memorial Day- will be honored by the Minnesota Vikings.

A statement was released by the team where in they announced that on their September 13 game against Green Bay Packers, the family of Floyd will be honored at the U.S. Bank Stadium following the performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

They also plan on addressing the issue of racism by employing other measures. The players are all set to don t-shirts with the phrase “Be the Change” on the front, while their backs will demonstrate the names of the 200 Black people who were either killed due to racist attacks or police brutality.

Furthermore, the field’s end zones will demonstrate messages such as “It Takes All of Us” and “End Racism.” Players can also don helmet decals with sporting the name of a victim of systemic racism. They can choose to wear it for their opening game or throughout the season.

Several other teams have decided to address police brutality and racism during this NFL season. For instance, the Miami Dolphins announced that they plan to remain in their locker room when the “Star Spangled Banner” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” are played.

The team released a two-minute clip wherein they spoke about their intention.

“This attempt to unify only creates more divide. So we’ll skip this song and dance, and as a team we’ll stay inside,” the Dolphins players said. “We need changed hearts, not just a response to pressure. Enough, no more fluff and empty gestures. We need owners with influence and pockets bigger than ours to call up officials and flex political power.”

Miami Dolphins to stay in locker rooms during the national anthems

During the Star Spangled Banner and Lift Every Voice and Sing, the Miami Dolphins will stay in their locker rooms, they have announced.

A two minute video was released on the NFL opening, where the players spoke about the objective underlying the decision, especially seeking change as opposed to engaging in “empty gestures.”

“This attempt to unify only creates more divide. So we’ll skip this song and dance, and as a team we’ll stay inside,” Dolphins players said. “We need changed hearts, not just a response to pressure. Enough, no more fluff and empty gestures. We need owners with influence and pockets bigger than ours to call up officials and flex political power.”

The NFL had recently announced social justice initiatives, following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. The Black national anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” will be played during the opening week of the NFL. However, the players are of the opinion that this is merely fluff.

“We don’t need another publicity parade,” player Bobby McCain said. “If you speak up for change, I’ll shut up and play.”

“So if my dad was a soldier, but the cops killed my brother, do I stand for one anthem and kneel for the other?” Elandon Roberts asked in the video.

The coach and owner of the Dolphins supported the move of the players. “It was directed at everyone [in the NFL]. I think every individual in this country can do a little bit better — players, coaches, owners, media,” said Dolphins owner Brian Flores. “That was the message. To try to misconstrue the message or take it in some different light, that wasn’t what the message was supposed to be.”

The Dolphins plan on donating $100,000 to the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition Fines and Fees program under their social justice plan. This money will be used to support the citizens returning with past convictions to help pay any outstanding fees and become voters.

Moreover, $2 million will be directed towards providing meals for residents in Miami who are underserved, while at least $1million towards assisting restaurants owned by minorities.

Interestingly, on Thursday, the Houston Texans also decided to stay in their locker rooms as Chloe x Halle and Alicia Keys kicked off the NFL season with the national songs.

The EVP of the Texans, Jack Easterby, stated that the objective of the decision was to ensure that there would be “no misinterpretation of them celebrating one song and throwing shade on the other.”

T.I. pushes people to government funding to purchase land

T.I. pushes people to government funding to purchase land

People are being encouraged by T.I. to buy land using the funds they receive from the government.

On Wednesday, the emcee decided to discuss financial suggestions with his followers on Instagram. He stated that they must refrain from buying luxurious items such as mink coats and Cartier jewelry, and instead, purchase land.

“We were just in the studio having a discussion and I just feel the need to share it,” he said in the short clip. “All y’all getting that money from the government … ain’t no more mink coats in the store — and it’s summer time — ain’t more Cartiers, it ain’t no more Louis Vuitton — go get you some property please. Please y’all, go buy some property.”

Someone in the background then shouted, “Get an LLC God damnit.” Tip replied, “Listen, that could be a big, complex and advance … too much paperwork and procedure in there.”

He continued, “It could be a patch of dirt, bruh. Go to yo’ hood — it ain’t gotta have no house on it or nothing — just buy it. Just buy it and hold it. Ya dig what I’m saying? Now that’s it. I told you. Can’t say you didn’t know.”

Previously, it was reported that the rapper behind Paper Trail will educate people through the “Business of Trap Music” class at Clark Atlanta University this fall. The class will encompass the history of the origin of the sub-genre as well as the economical basis of the impact of trap music on today’s hip hop.

“I’m excited to share my experiences and whatever resources or information I have that can be an asset for the future,” Tip said in a statement. “Drugs have existed for as long as humans have been on earth and music has existed for quite some time as well. The commonality that threads the two together is what makes trap music a dominant force in culture today.”

Florida sheriff’s deputy on administrative leave after hitting Black teen

Florida sheriff’s deputy on administrative leave after hitting Black teen

A disturbing video emerged online, wherein Florida sheriff’s deputy can be seen punching a Black teenager. The department is investigating the incident. According to the surveillance footage acquired from within the Sarasota County Juvenile Assessment Center, 17-year-old Terrance Devon Reed III could be seen seated in what was presumed to be a waiting area before the incident took place.

Then, Neil Pizzo – the Sarasota County sheriff’s deputy — can be seen gesturing at the teen. However, abruptly, Pizzo could be seen charging at Reed, and simultaneously, the latter stands up. However, Pizzo begins to choke the teen and hitting him in the face, as he pins him down to the ground.

Then, another deputy called Earl Matthews enters the room and sits on the teen’s legs as Pizzo uses a stick to beat the teen and then goes on to handcuff him. Almost immediately, other officers enter the room and Pizzo is guided out by the group.

Sheriff Tom Knight has launched an investigation after watching the footage and Pizzo has been placed on administrative leave.

“I feel disappointment. I feel that I am disappointed in what I saw,” Knight said of the incident. “In an abundance of caution I put him [Pizzo] on administrative duty. At first blush, it’s the first thing you’re going to see as a reporter; something went wrong.”

“We are responsible for de-escalating the situation,” he continued. “Was the de-escalation practice put into play there?... If a deputy is trying to de-escalate and you go hands on and you have a confrontation, what did he attempt to do prior to the physical confrontation to prevent it from happening?”

According to reports, Reed was arrested and charged with contempt of court, probation violations, possession of cocaine and selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a church. He was transferred to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment after he sustained several injuries due to the aggressive behavior of Pizzo.
