The Juneteenth weekend took an unexpected and distressing turn for an Ohio couple, whose encounter at a Toledo Bed, Bath & Beyond store has ignited a firestorm of outrage. Lamar Richards and his boyfriend found themselves at the center of an unjust accusation of shoplifting, leading to the dispatch of law enforcement. A video documenting the incident, shared on Twitter, serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against racial bias and the fight for justice.

What should have been a joyous celebration of Juneteenth turned into an ordeal of humiliation and potential legal action for Lamar Richards and his boyfriend. Summarizing their experience, we capture the profound impact of the incident on their lives and highlight the stark contrast between the expectations of a celebratory weekend and the reality they faced at the Bed, Bath & Beyond store.

Through the viral video shared on Twitter, Richards and his boyfriend shed light on the systemic racial bias that continues to persist in society. Their courageous act of exposing the unjust accusation serves as a rallying cry for accountability and an end to racial profiling. The incident at Bed, Bath & Beyond stands as a potent reminder of the urgent need for change in our collective mindset and the systems that perpetuate discrimination.

By amplifying the Ohio couple story, we amplify their voices and the voices of countless individuals who have faced similar experiences. Social media gives us the opportunity to unite, fight bias, and seek justice. We want to create empathy and understanding by rewording their experiences. This way, we can build a sense of solidarity and encourage others to speak out against racial injustice. The incident at Bed, Bath & Beyond serves as a turning point, highlighting the need for tangible actions to combat racial bias. We want to highlight the importance of creating policies and training that deal with **implicit bias**, which is a negative attitude or prejudice that we are not aware of but that affects how we treat people of different races or ethnicities. We believe that only by working together can we build a society that respects and values everyone, no matter their background or identity.

Lamar Richards and his boyfriend’s experience at Bed, Bath & Beyond sheds light on the persistence of racial bias and the urgent need for change. Their courageous act of sharing the incident on social media sparks outrage and calls for accountability. As we confront this distressing reality, let us unite in demanding justice and equality for all, creating a society where incidents like these become relics of the past, and where every individual can shop, live, and thrive without fear of discrimination.

A couple’s joyous Juneteenth weekend turned into a nightmare when they were accused of shoplifting at a Toledo Bed, Bath & Beyond location.

Lamar Richards tweeted that he and his boyfriend were falsely accused of stealing “high-ticket items” while shopping for their new home. The police were called on the two young, Black, gay men during Juneteenth weekend and Pride Month.

Richards explained that they had purchased $600 worth of items at a closing sale before noticing a police officer on their way out. In cellphone footage, the cop admitted to being called for “two Black guys” who an employee thought was stealing.

Richards expressed that he had never experienced such humiliation.
A civil rights attorney, Benjamin Crump, also shared the video clips on social media. Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. stated to Newsweek that they take such matters very seriously and do not condone any form of discrimination.

The viral hit “Telfy” by Maiya The Don made her an overnight hit in October 2022, making her one of the most popular women in the world. In a weekend filled with new music, Brooklyn rappers came through with their latest single, “Dusties.” This track is a tribute to her roots in New York City, with a sample of Lil’ Kim’s famous “Magic Stick” song featuring 50 Cent, which is a sample of Lil’ Kim. The track also features an interpolation of Ice Spice’s breakout track from a few years ago, called “Munch (Feelin’ U)”:

Ahead of the release of the new track, the rising star Maiya The Don sat down on “The Zane Lowe Show” yesterday (March 6) to discuss it. “My first response when I received the beat from Pliznaya was, “Yup, that’s fine”’. Lil Kim is my fave, we both hail from Brooklyn, and she is one of those women who tells us that God is a woman. In my mind, I am thinking, “Certainly, I am there.” Obviously,” she replied.

Additionally, Maiya The Don discussed some of her greatest musical influences in the interview. “Missy [Elliott] is a great inspiration to me,” she said. “I feel as though I recognize myself in her. She is a person with whom I can relate on so many levels. Missy is my favorite; I adore her to pieces. However, most of my favorite rappers are boys since my earliest memories of hip hop are when I received my first iPod at the age of 7. All the music was provided by my uncle, who was 16 years old at the time. In other words, it’s like Rick Ross, JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, everybody.”

As a debut artist, Maiya started out with loose tracks such as “ILL NANA,” “222,” and “CHIRAQ.” Since then, she has been featured on tracks such as “Conceited” with Lola Brooke alongside Flo Milli and “No More Crying” with Lay Bankz.

This past weekend, Diamond-certified rapper Lil Baby Gunna dropped off the official music video for the fourth track on his debut album, “Forever.” The new Fridayy-assisted video was directed by Cam Busby and illustrates a romantic getaway on a tropical island during which Gunna and his girlfriend are on their honeymoon. Throughout the track, the “Yes Indeed” rapper tells the story of a back-and-forth which takes place between him and his love interest:

Lil Baby’s second solo album, It’s Only Me, follows up the success of his 2016 My Turn LP, which featured Moneybagg Yo, Future, 42 Dugg, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, Gunna, Young Thug, and Rylo Rodriguez over the course of 20 tracks. During its opening week, My Turn was also the best-selling album on the Billboard 200, with 197,000 album-equivalent units moving during that week.
