Portland-born rapper Aminé is officially back with fresh music. On Friday, March 14, he unveiled his much-anticipated single, “Familiar”, marking an exciting return to his solo career. The track, produced by an impressive lineup of Buddy Ross, Jim-E Stack, Loukeman, and Pasqué, is expected to set the tone for his forthcoming album. To accompany the release, Aminé has also prepared a music video, which is set to premiere later today, further fueling excitement among fans.
The rapper first teased “Familiar” through a series of Instagram posts and videos, hinting at the return of a major project. On March 5, he confirmed fans’ suspicions by officially announcing that an album was on the way. “Album time,” he wrote on Instagram, sharing a snippet of the “Familiar” music video. He later took to Twitter to double down on the news, confirming that the track is part of his new album.
A Long-Awaited Solo Album
Aminé’s upcoming album will be his first solo full-length project since the release of his 2021 mixtape TWOPOINTFIVE and his first official studio album since Limbo in 2020. While he hasn’t shared the album’s title or official release date, fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from the rapper, especially after his well-received collaborative project with Kaytranada, KAYTRAMINÉ, which dropped in 2024. That project featured an impressive list of guest artists, including Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, Freddie Gibbs, and Snoop Dogg, showcasing Aminé’s ability to blend his signature sound with diverse influences.
In an interview with Hypebeast earlier this year, Aminé opened up about his creative process and how this upcoming project differs from his previous work.
“There’s not much I can say, because when you try to explain sounds, it’s never as good as the actual song,” he said, emphasizing his desire to let the music speak for itself rather than build expectations. However, he did express immense excitement about the album, revealing that it has been in the works for years.
“It’s something that I’ve been working on even before KAYTRAMINÉ, over a few years at a very slow pace,” he explained.
A New Chapter in Aminé’s Career
With this upcoming album, Aminé is not only evolving his sound but also setting the foundation for his artistic growth in the long run. “I want to grow as an artist and a songwriter, and become the person I want to be over the next 10 years,” he shared.
Reflecting on his previous projects, Aminé described TWOPOINTFIVE and KAYTRAMINÉ as more of a creative detour—mixtapes and passion projects that kept his fans engaged while he developed his vision for this new era.
“Those were really more like side projects I was doing to fill time and to give people what they wanted after Limbo,” he said.
Now, with a fresh album on the horizon, Aminé seems more determined than ever to push his artistry forward. Though details remain under wraps, the release of “Familiar” signals the beginning of an exciting new chapter—one that fans are eagerly ready to embrace.
