BLACK DEPUTY DENIED BURIAL IN CEMETERY BECAUSE OF RACE

Karla Semien wanted to purchase a burial plot for Darrel, her late husband, at Oaklin Springs Baptist Cemetery. She was with her white sons when she spoke to the overseer, but she was denied service after she was joined by her Black children, as she was informed that the cemetery was for “whites-only.”
