In his new single “Amazing,” Stefflon Don collaborates with Jamaican icon Vybz Kartel, which was produced by Dunw3ll. In a similar vein to past releases, Vybz’s newest release brings a new level of sexual energy to your dance floor:
The rapper has continued to manufacture new music and collaborate with artists since he was imprisoned in 2011. Aside from releasing more than an album worth of music this year, the self-proclaimed Worl’ Boss has released “Politics,” “Girl Next Door” along Roxxie, “Stimulus,” “All Heaven” featuring Shawn Storm, “Too Young” by Lenae, “White House,” “Likkle Bit So,” and “It Hard.”
Kartel spoke to FOX 5 New York in 2021 to describe how he copes with his imprisonment and why he is fighting for his freedom:
“Despite being sick for a few years, I have always been mentally sound. This is why I am certain that I am innocent and that I am telling the truth completely. It was the system that wanted me to be thrown away. It was never about me being charged for a murder. The purpose was to get rid of Vybz Kartel, not Adidja Palmer.
It was last week that NAV released his fourth studio LP Demons Protected by Angels. This album features performances from Lil Uzi Vert, Babyface Ray, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Lil Durk, Bryson Tiller, and more. Soon thereafter (Sept. 10), the Canadian artist dropped a new visual for “Lost Me,” in which he collaborated with RealestK on a song about a love interest that proved disloyal:
A black-and-white clip accompanying the music video for the NAV, 254Bodi, Money Musik, and HONEYWOODSIX-produced track portrays a single room in an artsy manner. NAV sits on a throne with an amount of money, and RealestK makes his appearance flanked by mannequins wearing sunglasses.
In the first week of the album’s release, Hits Daily Double estimates that Demons Protected by Angels will sell 50,000 to 55,000 equivalent album units. The number of units sold for Emergency Tsunami, released in 2020, would be higher if the figures are accurate. Emergency Tsunami debuted on the Billboard 200 at number six thanks to the sale of 42,000 units. As with Demons Protected by Angels, Emergency Tsunami showcased a variety of star power, featuring Young Thug, Gunna, Lil Baby, SahBabii, Future, and the late Lil Keed.
Earlier this year, Kem released a five-track EP entitled Full Circle, which featured additional collaborations from Brian Culbertson, Ty Dolla $ign, and Rick Ross, who all appeared on the track “Right On Time.” The track was produced by Derek and Kem “DOA” Allen, “Right On Time” portrays the artists expressing their love for their respective love interests:
It was announced last week (Sept. 9) that Kem would be releasing a new video for “Right On Time,” which is directed by Gerald “Plaid” Isaac. A black-and-white clip shows Ross in some fly suits, with color pops appearing on jewelry, a high-end car, and some of his clothing. Among the collaborators can be found a room decorated with white walls and Kem’s debut album’s title above.
The album comes on the heels of Kem’s 2020 LP Love Always Wins, which featured features from Culbertson, Toni Braxton, and Erica Campbell. Additionally, a deluxe edition of the album was released with several remixes and an appearance by Wiz Khalifa. During the same time period, Rozay released Richer Than I Ever Been, a star-studded effort featuring contributions from Blxst, The-Dream, Benny the Butcher, 21 Savage, Jazmine Sullivan, and more.
On Monday night (September 12), Burna Boy appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” where he performed a lively rendition of his latest single “Last Last,” a Toni Braxton-inspired track that has gained widespread success around the world. He gave viewers a small preview of what he can expect the next time he performs on stage with his backing band.
Aside from his brief performance, Burna Boy spoke with Fallon about a variety of topics. The topics covered included the above-mentioned song and his most recent body of work, Love, Damini. A few times during the presentation, he explained to the audience the origins of his now legendary name:
This may sound strange, but I used to illustrate comic books and things like that (laughs). Even though it doesn’t look like it, I used to draw comic books and copy Spider-Man and Superman. After a while, I wanted my own. It was my dream to be my own superhero, so I could draw myself as a superhero wearing a cape and everything. The only name that came to my mind when I was trying to come up with one was Burna Boy (laughs).
Love, Damini, released in July, contains 19 tracks, as well as additional contributions from artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, J Hus, Vict0ny, Popcaan, Blxst, Kehlani, Ed Sheeran, J Balvin, and Khalid. It climbed both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums charts to reach the number two position, proving a critical and commercial success. As well as “Last Last,” Love, Damini also featured well-received drops, including “Kilometre” and “For My Hand.”
A full body of work from Tobe Nwigwe’s moMINTs project was shared last month, and he has been consistently sharing visuals from the project. A number of well-received clips have been released for EarthGang songs, including “Round Here (Parts 1 and 2),” and “Lord Forgive Me” “Big Cap,” performed by Fat, Pharrell Williams, “Destruction,” and “Been Broke” performed by Fat, 2 Chainz, and Chamillionaire.
It was Nwigwe who shared the latest video from moMINTs yesterday (Sept. 11), this time for the track “Get A Lil Bag.” Afflicted with help from his wife Fat, the video features Nwigwe getting his troops prepared for the day ahead. There are several bars about being prepared for battle that he raps on the track:
This is the follow-up to the legendary Cincoriginals compilation of 2020, which contained 14 songs featuring the talents of Cyhi The Prynce, Trae Tha Truth, Bun B, D Smoke, Black Thought, Killa Kyleon, Big K.R.I.T., Royce da 5’9”, Fat, along with the legendary producer LaNell Grant. Throughout the last year, he has released freestyles such as “Wake Up Everybody,” “A Revealing Freestyle,” and “A Million.”
