District attorney of fulton county has requested a reassignment in relation to the case of rayshard brooks, who is the black man killed by cops outside wendy’s. District attorney fani t. Willis has asked attorney general chris carr to substitute paul howard with another prosecutor, as howard mishandled the case by using this specific footage in his campaign ad.
On January 27th, an armed man was arrested near the U.S. Capitol. A Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson stated that 71-year-old Dennis Westover of West Virginia was detained near the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, after a U.S. Capitol officer saw a parked car in the middle of an intersection. The man had two handguns, 20 rounds of unregistered ammunition and “Stop the Steal paperwork”
On January 28th, the stock trading app Robinhood became a subject of class-action lawsuit, following accusations of trade restrictions by users. The suit was filed by the Southern District of New York and Robinhood is accused of “purposefully, willfully and knowingly removed the stock ‘GME’ [GameStop] from its trading platform in the midst of an unprecedented stock rise thereby deprived retail investors of the ability to invest in the open-market and manipulating the open-market.” As a result users could not purchase AMC, GameStop and BlackBerry stocks.
In Columbus, Ohio the police chief resigned on January 28th, following the statements of the city’s mayor that the residents no longer had faith in him. This comes a few weeks after the police in Columbus fatally shot a 47-year-old Black man Andre Maurice Hill.
The nationally syndicated daytime talk show of Nick Cannon is now back, following months of postponement after he was criticized of making comments that were anti-Semitic in nature during his “Cannon’s Class” podcast. Immediately, Cannon apologized to the Jewish community and decided to take a short break, away from his Power 106 radio show in order to “establish an action plan towards real, impactful change and advocacy aimed at bringing people together.”
