Daryl Campbell, also known as Taxstone, was sentenced to 35 years in prison by a Manhattan judge for his involvement in a 2016 shooting at Irving Plaza during a T.I. concert.
The shooting resulted in the tragic death of Ronald “Banga” McPhatter and left three others, including rapper Troy Ave, with serious injuries. In March, Campbell was convicted of manslaughter, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. stated that the event resulted from a longstanding feud between Campbell and Troy Ave.
“Daryl Campbell targeted his rival with a firearm, causing loss of life and serious injuries to innocent bystanders,” said the D.A. “Gun violence is not an acceptable way to resolve conflict.”
Campbell gained fame in the hip-hop world through his social media presence and his “Tax Season” podcast, which debuted in 2015 and provided listeners with an unfiltered perspective from the streets of Brooklyn.
The podcast rapidly gained popularity for its authentic and candid depiction of life in the city.

In recent news, a shocking story has emerged from Santa Monica, California. A homeless man Job Uriah Taylor has been arrested for committing multiple violent hate crimes that have left the community shaken and outraged. This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing issue of homelessness and mental illness in our society, and highlights the urgent need to address these issues before they result in tragic consequences.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified as Job Uriah Taylor, is accused of attacking four victims with a knife and making racist and homophobic slurs during the attacks.
The first victim was attacked around 2:15 a.m. as he was walking near the intersection of 4th Street and Wilshire Boulevard. The victim, who is African-American, was slashed across the face with a knife and suffered minor injuries. The second victim, also African-American, was attacked about 15 minutes later near the same intersection. He too was slashed with a knife and suffered minor injuries.
The third victim, a Hispanic man, was attacked around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of 5th Street and Arizona Avenue. He sustained serious injuries after being stabbed multiple times. The fourth victim, a white man, was attacked around 3:00 a.m. near the intersection of 5th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. He too sustained serious injuries after being stabbed multiple times.
All four victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment and are expected to recover from their injuries. The suspect was arrested soon after the fourth attack and is currently being held on $1 million bail. He faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and hate crimes enhancements.”
Job Uriah Taylor has a long history of violence and mental illness. He has been diagnosed with schizophrenic disorder and has been involuntarily committed to mental health facilities on several occasions. In 2006, he was convicted of making criminal threats and served time in prison.
Since his release from prison, Job Uriah Taylor has been living on the streets of Santa Monica. He has had several run-ins with the law, including an arrest for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He also has a history of making homophobic slurs towards people he doesn’t know.
Santa Monica authorities responded to the arrest of a homeless man for multiple violent hate crimes by stating that they are taking the situation very seriously. They have increased patrols in the area and are working with local organizations to provide resources and support to the homeless community. They also encourage anyone who may have information about the suspect or any other potential threats to come forward so that they can be fully investigated.
Many residents are still in shock that such hatred could happen in their normally peaceful city. “I can’t believe this is happening here,” one woman told reporters. “It’s just so scary.”
Others say they aren’t surprised, given the recent rise in racism and bigotry across the country. “I guess it was only a matter of time before something like this happened here,” said one man. “It’s just so sad.”

In the beginning of this month, RAYE showcased her long-awaited debut album, My 21st Century Blues, to the world for the first time. As a result of the project, the London-bred hitmaker became the first artist to put out her own work independently after releasing a body of work in the past few years. As part of the executive production of My 21st Century Blues, frequent collaborator Mike Sabath contributed two features over the 15 total tracks of the album, both of which were from Mahalia and 070 Shake.
In this latest offering from the project, RAYE, who is just 25 years old, returns with the official music video for the recently released single, “Ice Cream Man.” Directed by the artist himself, the video bravely tackles a traumatic experience that RAYE himself has been through. She describes the events of her experience in such a detail in the song that we get a watch-by-watch account of what transpired:
“I did not tell anyone about my experience of sexual assault and rape when I went through these situations,” the songstress explained in a press release regarding the purpose of the song. It has been reported that one in four people suffer from sexual assault at some point in their lives. At least 25 percent of those of you who are reading this article are probably in that category. There is no doubt that there is a greater power in the darkness of the night than there is in the light of the day. I would like to encourage everyone not to bury anything deep down inside us for the rest of our lives. My best wishes to you, RAYE.”

On Wednesday, a video was released of a Black Memphis inmate Gershun Freeman being brutally beaten to death by a group of officers. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Gershun Freeman, can be seen in the video being punched and kicked repeatedly by the officers.
As a society, we have long struggled with issues of police brutality and systemic racism. Unfortunately, that struggle has once again come to the forefront in Memphis, where a group of officers was recently caught on camera brutally beating a Black inmate to death. The footage is horrifying and raises countless questions about the use of force by law enforcement officials.
This tragic incident occurred just one day after the decision was made to not indict the officers involved in the Breonna Taylor shooting. Once again, justice was not served and it sends a clear message that Black lives do not matter to law enforcement.
Gershun Freeman was a Black Memphis inmate who was beaten to death by a mob of officers. In the fall of 2022, Freeman was arrested after his girlfriend accused him of domestic violence and he was charged with domestic violence. The suspect has been taken into custody by the police and has been charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping. Afterward he was then restrained by officers and taken to an outdoor area, where he was repeatedly punched, kicked, and hit with a flashlight. One officer can be seen standing on Freeman’s chest while he is lying on the ground. The officers involved in the incident have not been charged.
In the United States, people of color have long been subjected to violence and discrimination at the hands of law enforcement. This history of racial injustice in law enforcement came to a head in 2020 with the high-profile killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and other Black Americans by police officers. The resulting nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism put a spotlight on the long-standing problem of racial injustice in law enforcement.
Racial injustice in law enforcement is not a new phenomenon. In fact, it has its roots in the very origins of American policing. The first formal police force in the United States was established in 1838 in Boston, and it was modeled after British policing methods that were used to control slave rebellions in the West Indies. These methods were then adopted by southern slave patrols, which were created to catch escaped slaves and prevent slave uprisings.
When news of the incident broke, there was outrage among community members and bystanders. Many were shocked and appalled at the violence that was inflicted upon the inmate, and felt that it was unjustified. There were calls for the officers involved to be held accountable, and for justice to be served. The incident has also raised questions about the use of force by police officers and how it is often disproportionately used against people of color. This case is still ongoing, and the outcome will likely have a significant impact on the community.
