As part of the Drive In Theatre Part 2 project, Currensy released his latest body of work earlier this year. This included 21 songs and was accompanied by contributions from such artists as Rob49, Jade Angelle, Dash, Premo Rice, Fendi P, URA, and more. A few days ago, the New Orleans veteran announced on Twitter that he would be releasing a music visual for a song he had written to accompany said album called “Drive This Car,” A DJ Fresh-produced track featuring bars that convey the carefree lifestyle of Jet Life’s head honcho:
During the accompanying music video for “Drive This Car,” Currensy can be seen enjoying a drink at home, which is prefaced with a shot of him enjoying a drink. In addition to driving through New Orleans in a Corvette with a woman, they can also be seen in a car driven by a woman.
According to the rapper himself, 2022 is expected to be a productive year for him as well, following in the footsteps of previous years. There were also a lot of dope releases for fans in addition to The Drive in Theatre Part 2. These awesome releases included Continuance as part of The Alchemist and Spring Clean 2 being released under Fuse. There were also some tracks in which Currensy contributed his own special brand of bars, including Girl Talk, Wiz Khalifa, Big K.R.I.T., and Logic “Clouds,” G Perico “Bacc 2 The Blocc,” Guapdad 4000 “Pose,” Smoke DZA “Everyday,” Larry June “5.0 Chronicles,” EARTHGANG “SMOKE SUM (Remix),” and Hit-Boy “Tony Fontana III.”
Leon Thomas released his latest album (Dec. 12), “Breaking Point.” It is also worth noting that the new release was co-produced by Coleman and Don Mills, and has also been included in the latest Beats By Dre advertisement starring NBA legend LeBron James and his son Bronny James. Throughout the song, the Grammy-nominated artist sings about trying his best to salvage a fading relationship:
“Breaking Point” takes us back to Thomas’ previous single, “Love Jones” from earlier this year, a collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign. Aside from his own releases, Leon Thomas is also featured on a number of recent releases, such as “Lord Knows” by Steelo and “to get home” by Phony Ppl.
According to a previous interview with the Brooklyn-born artist Leon Thomas, in terms of success he puts a lot more emphasis on impact over tangible accolades, and in the past he has shared this view with a variety of media outlets. “My definition of success is being able to actually be able to reach genuine connections with people who care about music as much as I do,” he told us. “It’s true that numbers look positive, and we strive for constant improvement, but I feel that it takes a very long time to develop a brand that really breaks with the old models, which have been around for a very long time. It’s been a very relaxing and patient few weeks for me, and now I am ready to proceed brick by brick.”
There is just a few days left until Christmas. Sevyn Streeter and many artists are sending out holiday songs and projects to help get people into the holiday spirit by sharing their holiday music. In an effort to get in on the holiday spirit, Sevyn Streeter was kind enough to unveil her take on Nat King Cole’s beloved classic from years ago, “The Christmas Song.” While the songstress delivers the lyrics to the original tune, she adds her own special twist to the instrumental to make it her own:
There was an album by Sevyn Streeter named Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz that was released back in 2021. There were 15 tracks on the EP, as well as appearances by names such as BIA, Dominic Scott, A$AP Ferg, Chris Brown, and Lucky Daye. Then, a short while after, she released a deluxe version of her album, which added five new tracks to the original album.
It was my pleasure to catch up with the singer of “Before I Do” who was in attendance at the 2022 Summit x AT&T last month, during which she shared her most valuable advice for the aspiring artists who attend events such as these. “Be who you are. Enjoy your time. Don’t confine yourself to a single type of thinking,” she said to me. As far as I’m concerned, this is the most significant piece of advice that I would give an aspiring artist at this time. An idea is always a sign that you have a purpose for creating it. Don’t let anyone stop you from being creative, and do not let anything stop you from creating.”
It has been a hectic weekend for Monaleo since she returned with her latest offering, the powerful ballad “Miss U Already.” This powerful new track finds the Houston native addressing loss, grief stages, and mental health issues through her lyrics. As part of the release, Monaleo has teamed up with John Tashiro to direct a performance video featuring a choir that she personally hand-picked. There are some soulful lyrics that she delivers on the track, as she pays homage to those who have been in her life but are no longer with her in this world:
“A few months ago, Monaleo opened up my recording studio and invited my followers to record and sing with me, which is how the song “Miss U Already” came to be,” she wrote on her Instagram account about how the song ended up together. “From all the submissions I received, I scoured through them and selected the nine that you see standing behind me. They came to the studio, mastered the song very quickly, and amazed me with their voices.”
A viral single by Monaleo called “We Not Humping” made waves at the beginning of this year. In the months that followed, she contacted Flo Milli to perform the song’s official remix. A number of singles from the “First Draft Pick” rapper have been released throughout 2021, allowing fans to enjoy them including “Girls Outside,” “Suck It Up,” “Lock It Down,” “Draft Pick” with DJ Chose, along with one of her most heard singles, “Beating Down Yo Block.”
