The singer-songwriter has been active for two years since releasing Bigger Love, which featured 16 original songs and contributions from Gary Clark Jr., Jhené Aiko, Koffee, Rapsody, and Camper. The multi-talented artist has kept busy with collaborations and songs such as D Smoke “Stay True,” Lecrae “Drown,” “We Did It Big” by T.I., “Coming 2 America” featuring Burna Boy, Chance The Rapper “See Me Fly,” Carrie Underwood “Hallelujah,” “Die Under The Moon” with Yung Bleu, and French Montana “Touch The Sky.”
Besides the songs cited above, Legend also contributed songs to the project in the past few months such as “You Deserve It All” in collaboration with Raphael Saadiq, “Tomorrow” featuring Nas and Florian Picasso, and “FREE,” which has given rise to hopes for a possible new album. Adding to the fire when he drops “DOPE” today (May 18), Legend features an assist from JID on the Charlie Puth-produced track. On this chilled track, Legend and JID have their significant others glued to their arms:
As Legend explained in a recent interview with the Guardian, there is currently controversy surrounding Roe v. Wade:
“I can’t sit there and watch this shit happen. There’s a danger that we will not be able to become a full-fledged democracy. Our government is in the process of enacting a law relating to The Handmaid’s Tale. It is doubtful that we will be able to reach a conclusion by “kumbaya”. At this point, we must fight, and I will participate in the fight.”
J Stone announced this week that he would release The Definition Of Sacrifice, the final installment in his trilogy “Definition”. Among the artists who are working on the project are Young Dolph, Swizz Beatz, Jadakiss,, Mozzy, OT Genasis, Styles P, K Camp, and Lumidee. The announcement of the upcoming album was accompanied by release of a brand-new single, “Weekend”. This track features an outstanding feature by the late and legendary Young Dolph and captures the excitement of making it to the end of the week:
The chemistry, the game of independent grind we share, and our shared drive made working with Dolph like working with Nipsey. Almost every single day, he would FaceTime me about shooting the video. “Unfortunately, the unimaginable tragedy took place almost just as hard as Nip’s passing,” Stone said in a press release about the collaboration. Nevertheless, I will stick with the script and the plans that both Dolph and I had for The Weekend because that is what he would have desired. A hymn to remember, a song for a lifetime.”
The Definition of Pain and Ground Zero were two J Stone projects released last year. As for the project, it contains 18 tracks total and features artists such as the late great T.I., Nipsey Hussle, T-Pain, Dom Kennedy, Dave East, Mike D’Angelo, and more. Pacman da Gunman collaborated with Ground Zero. Those two projects were preceded by The Definition of Loyalty from 2019. The Bootleg Kev Podcast’s J Stone confirmed earlier today that a posthumous Nipsey Hussle album will definitely happen someday.
FKA Twigs unveiled her debut mix tape CAPRISONGS in January, which included 17 genre-bending songs alongside help from artists including Pa Salieu, The Weeknd, Shygirl, Rema, Daniel Caesar, Jorja Smith, Unknown T, and more. Besides that, FKA twigs released a video yesterday (April 19) for “oh my love,” a Jason Scheff and El Guincho -produced track, which is accompanied by messages from Abigail Sakari and Suzannah Pettigrew detailing their experience of being on the wrong side of an inconsistent and lopsided relationship:
Featuring lo-fi footage of FKA Twigs having her nails done at a salon, Aidan Zamiri’s accompanying clip offers a lesson in self-care.
Relatedly, twigs recently released a short film called PLAYSCAPE, which has coincided with this year’s International Woolmark Prize, a prize that honors designers around the world (previous winners includeKarl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent). Below explains said film:
“Directed by FKA Twigs and creatively directed by Zak Group with choreography by Juliano Nunes, here is the final Lookbook for the IWP2022 collection including Ahluwalia, Jordan Dalah, EGONLAB, Peter Do, MMUSOMAXWELL, RUI and Saul Nash. Isamu Noguchi’s concept of play as a catalyst for creativity inspired Playscape, which merged elements of fashion, dance, and music.”
