Hit-Boy has released a handful of well-received singles this year, including “Corsa” by Dom Kennedy, “Scholar” with Devin Morrison and 24Hrs, and “Fireproof,” which premiered exclusively earlier this summer. This past weekend, the Pasadena-born producer and artist released his latest single, “Tony Fontana III.” Curren$y contributed an assist and the song was produced by EightSix Productions.
In addition to releasing the single, the Grammy award-winning hitmaker shared a photo on Instagram indicating that there will be a full joint album between him and CurrenSy. “Not [gon’] lie. It may just be that Spitta and Hit-Boy’s upcoming album can save the universe,” read the tweet that accompanied his post.
As a result of his busy schedule behind the boards this year, Hit-Boy has collaborated on several projects, including Bulletproof Soul featuring Pacman Da Gunman and HITGIRL alongside Dreezy. Moreover, he produced “Thique” on Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE album, which he later revealed that he had been keeping for nearly eight years. Together with Nas, he released the Magic album in 2021, and also teamed up with Big Sean to release the What You Expect EP the following year.
The producer of “Feeling Myself” recently discussed why he is more determined than ever before to personalize his work. “It has been common for people to play my music at events and in clubs, and they seem to love it, so I would like to implement my own unique version of performing the music that I have created, rather than just observing it from the outside,” he said. “For my compositions, as well as my performances, I would like to keep the music organic and natural in nature since I am discussing things that are happening in my life, from my son to my family.”
Joyce Wrice surprised fans earlier this year with her “Iced Tea” single, which was produced by Kaytranada. This weekend, Ashley Bone and Xavier Tera collaborated to create the official music video accompanying the song. In addition to elements inspired by her Japanese and Black heritage, the visual also features a number of other elements. A Kaytranada beat sets the clip’s opening scene as Wrice dances during a storm. She delivers her words over a few signature Kaytranada chords:
A debut project was released by Joyce Wrice in 2021 titled Overgrown. Producer D’Mile, who was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2021 and won the GRAMMY Award for Song of the Year in 2021, executive produced the album. Among the singles on Overgrown were “Falling in Love,” and “So So Sick” both of which were featured on Lucky Daye’s Table For Two EP. Among the 14 tracks featured on her LP were Freddie Gibbs,Westside Gunn, Masego, Kaytranada, UMI, and Devin Morrison.
As part of his holiday weekend promotion (Sept. 3), Kodak Black released a new song entitled “For No Reason.” The beat-driven tune features boastful raps regarding the Florida native’s freewheeling lifestyle:
A couple months back, Kodak Black released his long-awaited fourth studio album Back For Everything, which included 19 tracks and a guest appearance from Lil Durk. As 60,000 album-equivalent units were sold during the album’s first week of release, it came in at number two on the Billboard 200. Back For Everything also received a gold certification.
Thousands of cases of water were sent to Haiti by Kodak Black last month. Bradford Cohen, his attorney, further explained the decision through Instagram:
Several months have passed since Kodak Black began working on this project. Providing assistance to governmental agencies and dinations as well as speaking with teams on the ground. In an attempt to stop the violence in Haiti and lift the people out of poverty. During the past year, Haiti has been slowly rebuilding without any fanfare. Although others may speak about it, he is doing it. I am so impressed with the importance and vibrancy of the Haitian community in South Florida. The only way to change things is by coming together as a community and acting as one.
As usual, J. Cole blessed fans with this fantastic surprise. The Rockville star and his Dreamville Camp are hitting the streets today (March 31). Lute, Bas, Ari Lennox, EARTHGANG, J.I.D, Cozz, and Omen collaborate with DJ Drama for D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape, which will contain both previously unreleased tracks and previously released tracks such as J.I.D’s “Ambassel,” which helped make the Madden NFL 22 soundtrack stand out.
Besides appearing at Dreamville, D-Day is also taking part in this year’s festival, which will be held in Raleigh, NC this weekend, and in addition to the aforementioned will feature Ja Rule, Lil Baby, Ashanti, Moneybagg Yo, Kehlani, Bia, WizKid, Wale, Morray, Fivio Foreign, Blxst and more. Drama will also appear at the event as part of the Gangsta Grillz with Lil Wayne, Jeezy, and T.I.
The collective of Dreamville came together a few years ago to release their third installment of their Revenge of the Dreamers series, which included a healthy amount of cuts with a host of guest appearances from the likes of Smino, Childish Major, Yung Baby Tate, Reason, DaBaby, Guapdad 4000, Ty Dolla $ign, Vince Staples, and Deante’ Hitchcock. As a result, the project was an outstanding success for all parties involved, landing at the top of the Billboard 200 charts after selling 115,000 album equivalent units in its first week of release. After Revenge of the Dreamers III’s release, a Director’s Cut version with twelve additional songs been released.
In regards to Cole, he released his sixth studio album, The Off-Season, last year. It was another chart-topper from the camp (and Cole’s sixth). A tour of the same name was later organized to promote the album, which included Morray and 21 Savage.
