On Monday, President Donald Trump tweeted that Attorney General William Barr has resigned. He also praised Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen, and revealed that he would act as an Acting Attorney General. He also tweeted the resignation letter of Barr, wherein he explained that he will leave his job on Dec. 23.
Thursday (Dec. 10) witnessed voting by the Minneapolis City Council to approve budget cuts for police department locally for next year. It has been reported that though there will be a reduction in the budget, there will be no change in the number of police. It is the responsibility of the city to tune its staffing capacity in the future.
According to CNN, a man who was serving a sentence of 90-years in relation to a nonviolent crime was released from custody. Back in 1989, Richard DeLisi was incarcerated as he exported weed from Colombia into Florida. After being found guilty of racketeering, trafficking in cannabis and conspiracy, his sentence was pronounced to be nine decades in jail, extending beyond the usual penalty of 12-17 years.
A former Minneapolis police officer involved George Floyd’s death filed to delay the trial till July 2021.
Robert Paule is the lawyer representing ex-cop Tou Thao and he accused state prosecutors of breaching a court order wherein they were directed to share discovery material with the defense. It was on Friday (Dec. 11) that this was filed.
In Washington, D.C., clashes between supporters of President Donald Trump and counter-protesters became very violent on Saturday (Dec. 12) night. At the end of the clashes, nine people were injured, while a minimum of 33 people were arrested. The Freedom Plaza, on Saturday, witnessed pro-Trump crowds, such as The Proud Boys, supporting the president’s allegations regarding voter fraud in the presidential election.
